Introduction

• lmbench is a suite of simple, portable, ANSI/C microbenchmarks for UNIX/POSIX, and Linux. In general, it measures two key features: latency and bandwidth. lmbench is intended to give system developers insight into basic costs of key operations. 

Status

• Current measurements are available for kernel 2.4.6

Results

Test results are available for Linux kernel 2.2.19, 2.4.4, 2.4.

Test Environment

• hardware - Intel-based Pentium III 550 MHz, SMP 2-cpu, 512 KB L2 cache, 512 MB main memory, 9 GB SCSI
• operating systems - RedHat 7.0 and Linux kernels from kernel.org
• network - loopback
