Linux Scalability Effort - Call on 5/4/01
------------------------------------------
o Tim Wright -
	Kernel Summit
didn't really meet the goal of getting a defined list
of features to go into 2.5, but good interfacing was done
	MQ Scheduler
didn't come up at the summit
Tim had to send a reply to Ingo on lkml explaining the
			realities of enterprise class applications
Who do we need to convince? Ans: Alan and Andrea?
Have 2 quad (out of 4) ia32 box running, internally bringing up
		ia64 NUMA on 4 quads
Looking at gcc optimizations for kernel
JWright: SGI's compilers are open src and look really good
for apps (especially HPC), Intel's definately have
			better optimizations for SPEC, etc
HansT: heard HP is looking at gcc optimization project
Is lockmeter/kernprof availible for ia64? Ans: yes on oss.sgi.com
Dave Olean working on interrupt routing
JWright: is irq affinity being looked at as a solution?
		TWright: will ask.
o Steve Carbonari -
WebBench up and running on Foster system
hung due to net driver problems, TWright: use 3Com 3c509 cards
	8 way w/ 16 drives for i/o testing w/ Iometer
expecting the io request lock to be hot
TWright: a lot of focus on io issues at the summit
TWright: at summit, conclusion was devt's have to grow
	update on SCSI rework
still waiting legal apporval to share results, etc
