Linux Scalability Effort - Call on 4/20/01
------------------------------------------
Tim Wright - IBM looking at io paths. Looking at running BT RealWorld
	benchmark
JWright: info on previous work with databases. rawio, kaio, etc.
The patches are still on oss.sgi.com. Also did a quick
explaination fo some of the TPC-H benchmarking work. Will
try to get Doug Nelson as contact to explain any further.
TWright: looking at a faster gettimeofday as DBs do that call
		over and over
JWright: we did a patch last year and found no performance gain,
but that could be because the bottleneck was higher up and
it might be a good time to revisit it.
John Wright - Gearing up AIM7 tests for SNIA to compare to O2k results
Steve Carbonari - Will send out new patch to fix sync_buf/dd hang problem
		for review
Found that their WebBench setup is underpowered and looking at
beefing it up. Currently running 10 engines/client
Wookie: OSDL is also setting up a WebBench setup.
Reviewing locking paper, will send back info soon.
Team going to focus on enhancements to 2.4 (worry later about 2.5
as we will have to live with 2.4 for a long while).
Bounce buffers is one issue. JWright: should be acceptable
		for 2.4
Tim Wright - have Linux booting on 4 quads
general reaction from the kernel guys @MQ patch is that long queues
are the result of broken apps. JWright: maybe Doug can tell us
how much effect the MQ patch had on the TPC-H benchmark.
JWright: has anyone run across this OSDB(Open source database
benchmark) from someone at Compaq? Answer: No. Jwright: Will
		send out pointer.
JWright: What projects have signed up for ODSL time?
Wookie: GFS, MySQL, Chronium, ReiserFS, Postgres. All of them have
		off then on interest.
